Town Hall

In response to Governor Lamont’s Executive Order 7S (EO7S) and Executive Order 7W (EO7W), the Litchfield Board of Selectmen voted to adopt an ‘extended grace period’ for taxes due on July 1, 2020. The last day to pay these taxes without interest will be October 1, 2020.

Any tax unpaid on October 2, 2020 will be subject to 6% interest. The program is automatically extended to all taxpayers for personal property and motor vehicle tax bills. Real estate taxes will also automatically qualify for the program except for the following two exceptions.

1. Real estate tax accounts for which a bank holds an escrow account. These financial institutions will be responsible for paying their client’s real estate taxes due on July 1, 2020 within the normal 30 day grace period and will be subject to 3% interest on August 3, 2020.

2. Real estate tax accounts for Residential and Commercial Landlords unless they provide the Tax Collector with documentation that either the parcel will suffer significant income decline, or that commensurate forbearance has been offered to their tenants.

Be aware that this notice applies to property located and taxed in the Town of Litchfield only. If you own property located in another municipality, you should verify what that municipality has done with respect to EO7S and EO7W.
