Hello, this is First Selectman Denise Raap.

It is with great sadness that I inform you of Litchfield’s first COVID 19 related fatality.  The number of confirmed COVID 19 cases in our Town has now risen to 8.

I again urge all residents to stay home whenever you possibly can.  If leaving your home is not absolutely necessary then please just don’t do it.  The more we all stop making unnecessary trips outside the home the more we can slow the spread of COVID 19 in our community.

In those situations where you must leave home, please maintain strict social distancing of at least 6 feet.  In places where it is difficult to maintain social distancing such as in grocery stores and pharmacies, please use a facecloth as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.  Facecloths can be made from scarfs and other materials readily available in your home.

We have all heard the Governor’s directive to “Stay Home and Stay Safe” many times. I am imploring everyone to please not let these words become a mere slogan. It is no exaggeration to say that staying home could literally be a matter of life and death.

Finally, on behalf of all the people of Litchfield I would like to thank our first responders who are selflessly placing themselves at risk while rendering aid to our residents each and every day throughout this difficult time.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Stay Home and Stay Safe, everyone.
