As of Oct. 3, 2008 we shut down the Town of Litchfield's website due to the requirements mandated by Public Act No. 08-3.

The town has no IT department, and complying with the bill will put a burden on our Town Clerk’s office and each board in town. The bill potentially opens us to FOI complaints and hearings which could cause additional financial burdens that have not been budgeted; therefore, we believe it necessary to take this action. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but hope to be able to restore our site soon.

SUMMARY OF THE NEW LAW

Public Act No. 08-3 of the June 11 special session made some important changes to the Freedom of Information statutes. The changes, which are effective Oct. 1, will require all municipal public agencies to post their meeting minutes and notices for special meetings on the town's Web site within the same time frames that were already in the statute. Accordingly, the minutes for each meeting must be available on the town's Web site within seven days after the meeting, and special meeting notices must be posted on the town's Web site not less than 24 hours before the special meeting.
