BOARD OF ASSESSMENT APPEALS
The Board hears appeals from real estate property owners each spring. A session is held in the fall to hear appeals on motor vehicle assessments. Any taxpayer who is “aggrieved by the doings of the Assessor” may appeal his or her assessment to this board.

Liaison between community and local cable network. Monitors quality; determine viewing recommendations and proper service.

Developments, conservation, supervision and regulations of natural resources, including water resources, within its territorial limits. Conducts research into the utilization and possible utilization of land areas of the town.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
Conducts research into the economic conditions and trends in Town, shall make recommendations to officials and agencies and regarding actions to improve its economic condition and development, shall seek to coordinate the activities of and cooperate with unofficial bodies organized to promote such economic development. Assist in bringing business and industries into Litchfield as well as improving existing business and industry.

BOARD OF EDUCATION
Maintains a good public school system, implements and educational interests of the state and provides such other educational activities as in its judgment will best serve the interests of the school. HOUSING AUTHORITY
Designated as the Town’s authorized housing site development agency for the purpose of carrying out housing and community development projects in conjunction with the state housing and community development program. Wells Run and Bantam Falls.

HOUSING PARTNERSHIP
Examines and identifies housing needs and opportunities, explore availability of any state, municipal and other land suitable for development of affordable housing, review applicable zoning regulations and identify and necessary changes to same, develop a long range plan to meet identified housing needs, establish procedures for the development of a written proposal to achieve such priorities and to start a development or project designed to create additional affordable housing with the Town.

INLAND WETLANDS COMMISSION
Promulgates regulations and acts as the inland wetlands and watercourses agency for the town.

MILTON HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
Promotes the educational, cultural, economic and general welfare of the public welfare of the public through the preservation and protection of buildings and places of historic interest by the maintenance of such as landmarks in the history of architecture of the town, state or nation and through the development of appropriate settings for such buildings, places and districts.

Charged with the preservation, improvement and maintenance of all public parks, forests, recreational facilities and areas. Management, operation and supervision of all facilities. Develop and execute recreational programs for all residents.

Administers the town’s pension in accordance with federal and state statues and regulations. VETERAN’S COMMITTEE
Acts as coordinating agency in all matters concerning veterans and their dependents, coordinating the activities of public and private facilities concerned with veterans reemployment, education, rehabilitation and adjustment to peacetime living, secures services and benefits to which a veteran or his dependents are entitled, encourages and coordinates vocational training services for veterans.

WATER POLUTION CONTROL AUTHORITY
Generally oversees and manages sewage disposal for the town. Arranges for financing, contracting and construction of facilities, including applying for any Federal and State funding.

ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
Serves as a quasi-judicial body and its duties include hearing appeals from the decision of the Zoning Enforcement Officer and varying zoning ordinances when the rules present exceptional difficulty or hardship and thereby prevents property owners to make reasonable us of their property.
